Today, August 30, 2018 the whole world watched saluted and said farewell to an iconic American soldier, father, husband, all American, politician, and friend to many. We listened as others touted highly personal and reflective opinions about John McCain's deep involvement in life, the Church/Faith, his interests, heroism, sufferings and losses, eloquence, etc. This American hero is truly a rare and precious individual whose life and legacy will continue to be celebrated and whose presence will be missed.
The senator is highly regarded for his unwavering belief about America's role in the world, which can be summed up as servitude to the weak and oppressed; and, upholding human dignity and rights, while fighting for equality and freedom throughout the world.
As I watched CBSN's coverage and looked back at the life that was, I could not help but consider his steadfastness in God and love; driving forces that kept him going even when imprisoned in the Hanoi Hilton prison in 1967. Beliefs that once were the pillars of American society.
He was never to "big" to apologize or admit his mistakes. Driven by strong beliefs of virtue honesty and integrity McCain not only survived captivity, but became known as a man of integrity, leadership and deep knowledge. His is a great legacy that cannot become captured in a single page.
We salute the US Senator John McCain by borrowing a line from Michael Knigge's online account — remember his ethos of service to the American people: "We must do the hard work our citizens expect of us and deserve."
